MARTINEZ — In August 2019, authorities say an Oakland oral surgeon named Cassidy Lavorini-Doyle approached a Concord man with a proposition: Lavorini-Doyle wanted a 10-year-old to rape for at least a day, and was willing to pay top dollar.
The Concord man was well-familiar with Lavorini-Doyle’s interest in children, according to authorities. Over the past year, Lavorini-Doyle allegedly forked over tens of thousands of dollars to have sex with a 19-year-old woman who the Concord man and others allegedly convinced Lavorini-Doyle was just 14. In response to this latest request, the Concord man allegedly sent Lavorini-Doyle a picture of prepubescent girl and told him he was “negotiating” with her mother on a fee, according to police statements in court records.
Lavorini-Doyle allegedly paid $55,000 for setting up the encounter, but the deal was never completed, according to authorities in Contra Costa County. Police are still investigating whether this negotiation was another ruse to part Lavorini-Doyle from his money, or if there was, in fact, a deal in the works to traffic a young child.
Last December, the Contra Costa District Attorney”s Office tentatively declined to file charges against four members of the group but asked Walnut Creek police to continue its investigation. Police investigators have not yet returned to the DA to discuss a new filing. Because they’ve not been charged, this newspaper is not naming them.
But last year, police served several search warrants across California as they investigated the group and Lavorini-Doyle. It is an investigation that started in December 2019, in the parking lot of a Walnut Creek office complex on Lennon Lane, where Lavorini-Doyle allegedly approached two young sisters — the daughters of a janitor who worked in the area — and attempted to kidnap them, then offered their mother $30,000 when they resisted, authorities testified.
Walnut Creek police briefly detained Lavorini-Doyle — who claimed the incident was a “cultural misunderstanding,” according to police — but the next day, he boarded a flight to Cambodia. During a pre-flight screening, he allegedly told border protection agents he was in Cambodia for a dentistry conference. He was arrested upon his return to San Francisco in December 2019, and has been in jail ever since, court records show.
Lavorini-Doyle is currently being prosecuted federally, and last May agreed to plead guilty attempted sex trafficking of a child, attempted production of child pornography, travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, and receipt of child pornography, according to court records. The sex trafficking charge alone carries a potential life term. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer will sentence Lavorini-Doyle later this month.
During the course of the investigation, authorities raided Lavorini-Doyle’s home and found secret recording equipment, hundreds of child pornography videos, hypodermic needles, formula bottles for infants, plastic zip ties, and a meat cleaver, according to police. The child porn stash included photos of a toddler, authorities wrote in court records.
Among the child pornography files were videos that featured Lavorini-Doyle, a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations said in court records. One of them included the teen woman posing as a minor, and two others contained an unidentified person who appeared to be a child. The videos were labeled “11-year-old,” and “12-year-old,” according to court records.
