Accessibility Statement

1. Our Commitment

Finding Kids is committed to making our website, findingkids.org, accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. Families who need our help are often facing the most difficult moment of their lives, and no one should face an added barrier when trying to reach us. We work to provide a website that is usable by all visitors, regardless of ability or the technology they use.

2. Accessibility Standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

Conformance status

Our website is currently partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the standard. We are actively working to address the areas described in Section 4.

3. Measures We Take

To support accessibility, Finding Kids and our web team:

  • Include accessibility in the design and development of our website.
  • Use clear headings, descriptive link text, and a logical page structure so the site can be navigated with a keyboard and screen reader.
  • Provide text alternatives for meaningful images.
  • Use color contrast and text sizes intended to be readable, and allow text to be enlarged without loss of content.
  • Label form fields and provide instructions and error messages that can be read by assistive technology.
  • Respect the “reduce motion” setting in your device or browser, so that animations and scrolling effects are minimized for visitors who have turned it on. [CONFIRM this is implemented for the GSAP/parallax animations]
  • Review the site periodically and fix accessibility issues as we find them.

4. Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some parts of the site may not yet be fully accessible. We are aware of the following:

  • Case Intake Form: our Case Intake Form is a multi-step form that asks for detailed information and requires photo uploads. Some visitors using assistive technology may find it difficult to complete. If you have any difficulty with this form, please contact us using the options in Section 6 and our team will take your information another way. You never need to complete the online form to ask for our help.
  • Spam protection: our Case Intake Form may use Cloudflare Turnstile to prevent spam. If a security check prevents you from submitting the form, please contact us directly.
  • Video: the video on the homepage does not have captions.
  • PDF documents: some older PDF documents, such as brochures, may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We will provide the information in an accessible format on request.
  • Third-party content: some content and services on our site are provided by third parties that we do not control. These include our donation page, which is hosted by DonorPerfect, and embedded video from Vimeo. We choose partners with accessibility in mind, but we cannot guarantee the accessibility of their content. If you have trouble donating online, you can give by mail or phone, as described on our Donate page, or contact us for help.

5. Compatibility

Our website is designed to work with current versions of major web browsers, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge, on desktop and mobile devices, and with common assistive technologies such as screen readers (for example, NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver), screen magnifiers, and voice control software. The site relies on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to work as intended.

6. Feedback and Assistance

We welcome your feedback. If you encounter an accessibility barrier on our website, need information in an alternative format, or need help completing any of our forms, please contact us:

When you contact us, it helps to tell us the web page where you had trouble, what you were trying to do, and the device, browser, and assistive technology you were using. We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 14 days. If you are reaching out about a missing or at-risk child, please say so, and we will prioritize your request.

“I cannot thank you enough
for finding my child.”

There are no fees for our services, ever. Every search and every hour of Family Support is funded by people who decided a missing child was their problem too.
